Our firm

In 1948, at the University of Havana in Cuba, civil engineering students with the last names Cancio and Martin convinced their teacher, Mr. Saenz, to found an Engineering consulting company. This is how SACMAG was born, and the new company was named after their founding architects and engineers: Saenz, Cancio, Martin, Alvarez and Gutierrez.

Projects such as Bacunayagua bridge, 313 meters long, which was awarded by the American Concrete Institute (ACI), were developed, as well as the Foxa building and the factory of Bacardi, with whom we have worked in Cuba, Puerto Rico, Brazil, Miami and Mexico.

In 1959, out of fear of the situation that prevailed in the country, they closed the company and went out to found similar companies in Puerto Rico (Sacmag Tamargo and Associates), in Costa Rica, (AICA Sacmag) and in Mexico (Sacmag de México).

On February 10th, 1960 in Mexico City by engineers Edilberto Rodriguez de Cancio and Angel Muñoz Fernandez as an engineering and architecture consulting company.

In 1961, the second company of the 8 that currently make up Grupo SACMAG, INGENIERIA INDUSTRIAL PARA AMERICA LATINA (INGENIAL), was born as a company dedicated to conduct appraisals and asset inventories. In 2023, INGENIAL relocated to the City of Monterrey, in Nuevo Leon state, as a company dedicated to the development of Engineering, Construction Management, Supervision and Geotechnical studies.

SACMAG already provided supervision and inspection services on site and given the growth that the firm had had, the partners decided in January 1975 to create the third company of the group with the name of SUPERVISIORES TECNICOS (SUPERVISA), focused on providing Coordination and Supervision services in the urban building sector, covering areas such as housing, commerce, offices, hospitals and hotels, among others.

Our experience performing Construction Management and Supervision services made us realize of the need of verifying the materials that were being used, and aiming to become accountable for the results we obtain in tests, we created the company Laboratorio de Control, S.A. de C.V. still in 1975, which specializes in the quality control and verification of construction materials, both for earthworks and concrete and steel, by the use of destructive and non-destructive tests.

The landmark of 1976 for the group was the creation of the company Consultores en Tecnologia Ecologica, S.A. de C.V. (CONSULTE), which years later, due to the existence of another company of the group, changed its name to Consultores en Tecnologia de Suelos, S.A. de C.V. (CONSULTE). Today, CONSULTE is one of the most well-known Mexican companies in the area of Geotechnics and Soil Mechanics Surveys. CONSULTE owns its laboratory drilling equipment, which allows it to offer a comprehensive service more efficiently.

In May of 1980, Grupo Sacmag S. de R.L. was started.

In 1984, the company Coordinacion Tecnico Administrativa de Obras, S.A. de C.V. (CORDINA) was founded. It provides project management and construction supervision services for the industrial and infrastructure sectors.

In 1994, due to the investment of foreign companies in Mexico, mainly North American companies, which sometimes required us to verify compliance with some of their environmental standards, we thought it was necessary to partner with a North American company. Looking for the appropriate partner, we found GZA GEOENVIRONMENTAL TECHNOLOGIES, INC. and in the same year, 1994, we created a company together, GEOAMBIENTE, S.A. DE C.V. For 4 years we provided environmental services associated with GZA, but in 1998 we became a 100% Mexican company, part of GRUPO SACMAG.

Since the 1980s, SACMAG DE MEXICO provided oil engineering project services, working both for private companies, but especially for Petroleos Mexicanos. Over the years, oil, gas and power services increased, so the members of GRUPO SACMAG decided to create an eighth company under the name of ESPECIALISTAS EN PETROLEO Y ENERGIA, S.A. DE C.V. (EPESA) on February 12th, 2012, with the objective of addressing very specifically the growing needs of the power and hydrocarbon sector, in particular as the energy reform became effective and opened participation to private companies.
